Black Cow Day

June 10 was Black Cow Day!
In August 1893, the great-grand-nephew of Frank J. Wisner, was the owner of the Cripple Creek Cow Mountain Gold Mining Company. He was trying to invent a special drink for the children of Cripple Creek. While, looking at his properties on Cow Mountain one moonlit night, the full moon;s glow on the snow capped mountain reminded of vanilla ice cream floating on the top of the blackened Cow Mountain. He then went back to his bar and put a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on the favorite soda water of the children. The flavor of the soda wate was root beer. It was instantly a big hit!
